It’s time to change from the current BRP to an eVisa now

11 November 2024 | Abbiss Cadres

In this article we outline the benefits of the new UK eVisa system and the key information required for setting this up.

What is an eVisa?

An eVisa is the new system from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) which contains the online record of a persons immigration status and visa conditions. The eVisa replaces the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) system which will end on 31st December 2024, along with the visa vignette, the sticker that is added to passports or travel documents after a successful visa application. So, from the 31st December 2024, there will be no physical visa documentation.

You will be able to use your eVisa to travel to the UK, as the eVisa is linked to your passport, and to prove your right to work and live in the UK

The eVisa benefits include:

  • Providing security for visa identity as it cannot be stolen or tampered with.
  • No longer needing to carry physical documents to show visa status.
  • It will be quicker and easier to prove visa status at the UK border and to share visa status with third parties like employers and landlords.
