Compensation & Benefits: An extra bank holiday in 2012!

31 January 2012 |

The government plans to create a one-time extra bank holiday on 5 June 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.

In addition to the extra day of holiday, the existing bank holiday in late May will be moved to 4 June to form a long weekend of celebration.

The extra holiday will currently only take place in England and Wales (rather than Scotland) although the Government would like the Scottish government to adopt the same.

Lord Mandelson, Lord President of the Privy Council, commented:

“This special Diamond Jubilee weekend will…be an opportunity to reflect on the incredible changes that have taken place…at home and around the world”.
