Employment: Paternity leave extension shelved
The Government has shelved plans to extend fathers’ paternity leave to enable mothers to return to work earlier. Fathers are currently only allowed 2 weeks’ paternity leave, whereas the proposals would have given fathers six months’ paid leave. The Government has stated that the appropriateness of the proposals will need to be reviewed in the light of the current economic climate.
